Dr. Aquilla Edwards | Co-Founder & Head of Psychology

Dr. Aquilla Edwards brings clinical expertise and deep personal empathy to our VMHA team. She earned her Ph.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University after completing her undergraduate studies at Cornell University. Before co-founding VMHA, Dr. Edwards served as the Director of Psychology for a nationwide telehealth company, where she was responsible for clinical quality and oversaw a team of more than 70 psychologists.

As the spouse of a Marine Corps veteran and the granddaughter of a Vietnam Army veteran, Dr. Edwards understands the unique challenges of military life firsthand. At VMHA, she leads our internal team of providers, ensuring that every veteran receives a thorough evaluation and the uncompromising quality they deserve.

Dr. Annie Powers

Dr. Annie Powers has been practicing as a clinical psychologist since 2005. She was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, and is fortunate to practice in and serve the community where she grew up and where most of her family continues to reside. She attended Missouri State University for her undergraduate degree and started her master’s degree in clinical psychology with Missouri State University before transferring to Forest Institute of Professional Psychology to finish her master’s degree, followed by her doctorate in clinical psychology with a focus in neuropsychology. She is board-certified in health psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology.

Throughout her career, she has provided individual therapy to patients with a variety of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, bipolar, acute stress disorder, PTSD, grief, relationship issues, treatment for insomnia, Suboxone supportive therapy as well as conducting chronic pain evaluations, DFS evaluations, assessments for spinal cord stimulators, pre-surgical bariatric evaluations, and neuropsychological assessments. She taught undergraduate psychology courses for a period of time at the University of Phoenix from 2009 to 2017.

She is a Master Gardener and loves learning about anything related to plants and enjoys cultivating, harvesting, and beautifying the environment around her. In addition to gardening, she enjoys spending time with her family and two high-energy, rambunctious Labrador dogs.
