We are incredibly proud to announce a new chapter in our mission to serve our veteran community. Through a powerful partnership with the Purple Heart Foundation, we can now offer our top-tier mental health assessments completely free of charge to veterans in financial need. Our new Mental Health Assessment Fund makes this incredible opportuity possible.
For the past two years, we have spoken to countless veterans who needed our services but couldn’t afford them. The cost of a professional assessment was a painful barrier, a roadblock on their journey toward healing and getting the benefits they deserve. This fund is our answer to that problem. We now have a way to support these veterans, ensuring that a lack of money will never again stand in the way of a proper mental health evaluation.
This blog is for two groups of people: the veterans who need our help, and the kind-hearted donors who can make this mission possible.
Mental health challenges among veterans are a real and serious issue. Conditions like PTSD, depression, and anxiety can impact every part of a veteran’s life. While the VA has its own system for assessments, these exams can often feel rushed and impersonal, sometimes missing key details. A comprehensive, independent mental health assessment can be the difference between a successful VA claim and a frustrating denial.
However, these private, in-depth assessments are not free. Though VMHA has priced our comprehensive evaluations accessibly, for unemployed, underemployed, or veterans living on a fixed income, the cost is simply out of reach. They are stuck in a tough situation: they need a professional assessment to get the benefits they earned, but they can’t afford the assessment itself. The Mental Health Assessment Fund was created to solve this very problem.
A mental health assessment is a thorough evaluation from a licensed psychologist. The goal is to get a formal diagnosis and a clear understanding of how your mental health condition is affecting your life. The assessment includes a detailed interview, a review of your medical records, and a formal report. This report is then used as evidence for your VA disability claim. It’s a key part of showing the VA that your mental health condition is service-connected.
If you are a veteran in financial need, you can apply for a free mental health assessment by taking our mental health quiz and requesting a consultation. You will need to show that you are in a difficult financial situation and that you meet the program’s eligibility requirements. The program will cover the entire cost of the assessment.
Financial hardship is defined as a veteran’s demonstrated inability to meet their basic living expenses due to insufficient income or significant and unavoidable expenses.
The free assessment is our full, top-tier service. It includes a comprehensive evaluation by one of our doctoral-level psychologists. The psychologist will conduct a clinical interview and then write a detailed Independent Medical Opinion (IMO). This IMO will provide a formal diagnosis, a detailed report of your symptoms and their impact on your life, and a clear nexus (the medical link) between your condition and your military service. This is the same high-quality service that our paying clients receive, completely free of charge.
There is no catch. This is a real, legitimate program created to help veterans who need it most. We know that the VA process can make veterans feel suspicious, but our mission is to provide you with the help you need. Generous donations from people who believe in our mission and want to help our veteran community support this fund. Our systems are HIPAA compliant, and your privacy is also our top priority. Your information will be kept strictly confidential.
The Mental Health Assessment Fund is a dedicated resource created in partnership with the Purple Heart Foundation. Consequently, the fund’s sole purpose is to pay for professional mental health assessments for veterans who need them but cannot afford them. Every donation goes directly toward covering the costs of these assessments, ensuring that every dollar you give has a direct and tangible impact on a veteran’s life.
A mental health assessment is the key to a successful VA claim. Without one, the VA has no medical evidence to support a veteran’s claim for PTSD, depression, or anxiety. Therefore, many veterans are denied their claims because they lack a formal diagnosis or a clear nexus statement. The Mental Health Assessment Fund solves this problem by providing veterans with the expert medical evidence they need to win their claims and receive the benefits they have earned. A donation of any size can help us provide a veteran with the support they need.
Your donation will cover the costs of a veteran’s mental health assessment. The assessment is a comprehensive service that includes the psychologist’s time for the evaluation, the records review, and the writing of the detailed Independent Medical Opinion. We have streamlined our process to ensure that your donation is used efficiently and has the greatest possible impact. Your donation will directly provide a veteran with the expert medical evidence they need to win their VA claim.
